During my trip to Las Vegas this past weekend, I was wasting some time in one of the countless shopping malls and peeked my head into one of the eyeglass shops since I am in dire need of a new pair. Although I am primarily in the market for a nice pair of full frame, black plastic spectacles, there was one pair that caught my eye that was designed by Gold & Wood of Paris. The company name is a literal translation of what made them popular – their frames are constructed of wood with gold inlay. The pair that grabbed my attention had a beautiful wood finish with subtle touches of gold. The thickness of the wood emphasized its organic design characteristics and also gave the frames a nostalgic flair. I tried them on and wanted to get them in addition to the black frames that are on my wish list but a quick look at the price shocked me. Although they are very fresh designer glasses that are truly one-of-a-kind, it is those characteristics that also give it a high price tag. $1,100 to be exact. Yup. And that doesn’t include the tax or the prescription lenses, or the case that you want to protect this valuable item when you sleep at night.
Disregarding the cost, they are stylish frames and the wood finish is just beautiful. Surprisingly, I looked for them online and couldn’t find the pair I had tried on, only the ones shown. These are not my favorite out of their collection but they are still hot. Maybe I should get a pair of wooden frames instead of the black plastic?
